| Ma Dan-yang,
a physician of note of the Jin
Dynasty, grouped together what he considered to be
the most important acupuncture points on the body.
Taichong (Liver 3) was
added later and the grouping became known as 'The
Twelve Heavenly Star Points.'
They are;
Taichong
(Liver 3) Indications for this point are; fright,
epilepsy, distention of the throat and heart, inability
to walk involving both legs, the 7 kinds of Shan
disorder (hernia), one sided sagging and swelling
of the testicle, cloudy vision, lumbar pain.
Zusanli
(Stomach 36) Indications for this point are; cold
in the stomach, borborygmus (stomach gurgling), diarrhea,
swelling in leg, knee pain, calf pain, deficiency
due to cold, weakness, emaciation, all kinds of parasitic
infestation.
Lieque
(Lung 7) Indications for this point are; one sided
headache, painful obstruction due to wind and numbness
of the whole body, phlegm obstruction in the upper
body, and lockjaw.
Hegu
(Large Intestine 4) Indications for this point are;
headache, swelling of the face, malaria - chills and
fever, tooth decay, nosebleed, lockjaw, inability
to speak.
Quchi
(Large Intestine 11) Indications for this point are;
aching elbow, hemiplegia (one sided paralysis) - inability
to make a fist, inability to draw a bow, flaccidity
of the sinews such that simple tasks are impossible,
painful obstruction in the throat, recurring fevers,
skin disorders.
Neiting
(Stomach 44) Indications for this point are; cold
in the hands and feet, dislike of hearing others speak,
skin rashes due to heat, sore throat, yawning, toothache,
malaria.
Tongli
(Heart 5) Indications for this point are; inability
to speak despite a desire to,vexation, anger, heart
pounding, heaviness in the limbs and the head, red
face and cheeks, or inability to eat, sudden voice
loss, and a blank face.
Weizhong
(Urinary Bladder 40) Indications for this point are;
severe lumbar pain, inability to stand straight, pain
radiating up the back, stiffness of the sinews, bone
stiffness, painful obstruction, difficulty bending
the knee, difficulty stretching.
Chengshan
(Urinary Bladder 57) Indications for this point are;
lumbar pain, haemorrhoids, difficult defecation, swelling
at the knee, cramps, spasms and tremors, cholera.
Kunlun
(Urinary Bladder 60) Indications for this point are;
cramping of the lumbar and sacrum, fullness in the
Heart region, inability to walk,
Huantiao
(Gallbladder 30) Indications for this point are; pain
in the hip, pain radiating to the lumbar and/or the
calf, difficulty rolling over.
Yanglingquan
(Gallbladder 34) Indications for this point are;
swelling and numbness of the knee, painful obstruction,
hemiplegia (one sided paralysis), inability to raise
the leg.
