Commentary
The main function of Fengmen
is to treat the symptoms of the common cold. In TCM,
the common cold is characterized as invasion of Wind.
Wind may be accompanied by cold (Wind/Cold), heat
(Wind/Heat), or dampness (Wind/Damp), diagnosed according
to specific symptoms for each. The neck area is the
most common entry point into the body for invasion
of Wind.
In the case of invasion by Wind/Cold,
moxibustion is applicable.
Because of its ability to firm the exterior,
strengthen defensive Qi, and its particular
effect on the nose, Fengman is useful for
the treatment of the symptoms of seasonal allergies
and rhinitis
