Location

when the mouth is wide open in the depression between the inter tragic notch and the condyloid process of the mandible

Needling

perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 0.7 inch
needle with the mouth wide open
mouth may be closed after needling

moxa is OK but is contraindicated in some texts

Actions

Signs and Symptoms

deafness, tinnitus, toothache, motor impairment of the temporomandibular joint, mumps, deviation of the eye and mouth

Commentary

Tingui (Gb2) is one of three points located in front of the Tragus, located at the lower border of the Tragus. Tinggong (Si 19) is located in the middle of the Tragus, and Ermen (Sj 21) is located immediately above Tinggong at the uppermost border of the Tragus, All three have the similar action of benefiting the ear, and are often needled together, or rotated in treating a wide variety of ear disorders.
