Commentary

The Pericardium is the strong muscle sheathing that protects the Heart. As the protector of the Heart, points on this channel are preferred for Heart disorders over points on the Heart channel itself. According to ancient texts, the Heart houses the Spirit (Mind). Disorders of the Heart are most often characterized by psychological and emotional signs & symptoms. Ceaseless laughter for example indicates a Heart excess, while profound sadness indicates a Heart deficiency. Daling is the point of choice for both excess and deficiency conditions of the Heart.

Specifically, Daling is recommended to clear heat from the Heart indicated by such symptoms as palpitations, agitation, epilepsy, mania, manic raving, restlessness, insomnia and anxiety.

Points on the Pericardium channel through its relationship with both the Small Intestine and San Jiao channels are also indicated for stomach and intestinal difficulties. Daling is indicated for difficult and bloody urination as well as vomiting blood, foul breath and epigrastric pain due to fire.

Daling then, has the action of harmonizing the Heart with the Stomach and Intestines.

Additionally, Daling is indicated to harmonize the Heart with the Liver when Qi is stagnant and at the root of fire blazing upwards with such symptoms as fullness of the chest, pain in the lateral costal region (below the rib cage), breast pain and heavy sighing.

Finally, Daling is a point of choice to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
