The Dog
© Original Drawing by Shi-He Wang

The Dog is the 11th sign of the Zodiac.

If you are born between October 8 and November 6th you are influenced by the sign of the Dog.

The time of day ruled by the Dog is between 9.00 pm to 11.00 pm.

The Dog is associated with the home, and specifically to the guarding of the home. In ancient times, at dusk, the house was locked up and guards posted, including guard dogs. This is the main meaning of the Dog sign.
Like the Dog, the Dog person is noted for his loyalty, and willingness to serve. In China, dogs normally lived outside the house, not inside, so the Dog is more in the nature of a German Sheppard or a Rottweiler. Even so, the elite did breed house pets like the Shih Tzu and Shar Pei, but these are not the dogs referred to astrologically.
Dog people decidedly protect those who are known to them and loved, and can be quite defensive in unknown situations, at least until it becomes known. Dog people may seem standoffish at first, but once they get to know you they can lavish affection like no other sign.
Dog people are known for their hospitality, their comfortable home life, courage, dedication, persistence, and ability to serve. However, introverted Dog people tend to be defensive and critical may also appear cynical and grim at times.

The Dog is Yang by Nature.

Those born in a Dog year will find Horse, Tiger and other Dog people most compatible. They will find Rat and Rooster people the hardest to deal with.

How the Dog relates to;

The Rat; These two are great companions, even though there may be friction between them arising out of two distinct approaches to life. While the Dog prefers the traditional ways, the Rat prefers the latest fad. Still these two are such great friends they don't allow such differences to stand in the way of enjoying each other's company.

The Ox; Not the best of pairings. Both are traditionalists to such an extent they often miss opportunities for improvement. Their disagreements may seem petty and unimportant to onlookers, but are often very upsetting to the pair. Not an auspicious union.

The Tiger; This is an auspicious union. While there are many differences, both seem to have similar views on the important issues. These two work well together and usually are successful at whatever they choose to do. A long a prosperous life is indicated for both.

The Rabbit; This is a union that will require a great deal of hard work to keep it together. There is obvious physical attraction, but sharing responsibilities may prove to be challenging.

The Dragon; As much as the Dog would love to trust the Dragon, the Dragon's mystical and magical nature is problematic for the pragmatic Dog. It often seems the Dragon is keeping secrets, when it is simply mystical knowledge that is 2nd nature to the Dragon, but beyond the Dog's pragmatic nature to grasp.

The Snake; There are deep feelings of affection between these two, if not openly expressed. But it is like two individuals pursuing the same path, rather than a partnership. Still, there is comfort in knowing the other is there when needed.

The Horse; The Horse is one of the ideal partners for the Dog. These two are energetic, full of fun and laughter, as they enjoy life to the fullest. They rejoice in bringing laughter wherever they go.

The Sheep/Goat; These two are fairweather friends. When times are good they are good to each other, but when times are bad taking care of each other is not a priority. These two often have much higher expectations than their combined abilities can live up to. To succeed much work is needed to weather the storms of life.

The Monkey; This is a delightful couple who enjoy each other's company thoroughly. Independent enough to get on with their lives during periods of separation, they nevertheless take great delight in being reunited. Each takes great pleasure in admiring the efforts of the other.

The Rooster; Not an auspicious union. There are disagreements at every level between these two. They don't have the same priorities, goals or expectations which makes harmony problematic. Still, some think it is worth the effort.

The Dog; Two Dogs together is an auspicious union. These two tend to take life one step at a time, with a strong family life, a happy home, comfort and prosperity priorities they pursue single mindedly. Indeed, it is often the case that these two can read each other's minds.

The Pig; While both the Dog and Pig tend to emphasize home life, stability, and traditional values, there are hidden differences that make this a less than auspicious union. The more open these two are with each other the better things will be.
