The Rat
Original Drawing by Shi-He Wang
The Rat is the 1st sign of the Zodiac.
If you were born between December 7th and January 6th, you
are influenced by the Rat.
The Rat rules between the hours of 11.00 pm and 1.00 am.
There is a story that, long ago, the Yellow Emperor (the mythical
founder of China) called all the animals to him. In later versions,
this action was ascribed to Buddha. Only 12 animals answered
the call and the Rat was the first one to show up. As a reward,
the Rat was given the first month. Each of the other animals
were given months according to the order of their arrival.
Rats are thinkers, creative, enthusiastic, and love all new
things.
They like to have someone at their side to assist them.
Rats don't handle failure well.
They are at their best late in the evening. This makes sense
as the 24 hour clock begins at Midnight... for the Rat, the
very beginning of the cycle.
Rats prefer to work irregular hours. This again makes sense
since the most active time for the Rat is around midnight.
Rats prefer to create an aura of mystery and darkness.
They are good with other people's money but not their own and
can be both a spendthrift or a miser depending on the mood.
At their worst, Rat people can be power-hungry, manipulative
and may be found plotting in the dead of night when everyone
else is asleep.
How the Rat Relates to;
Another Rat; very compatible. As these two are similar they
understand each other and support each other.
With an Ox; The Ox is just what the Rat needs for balance and
harmony.
With a Tiger; These two are better in business. Emotional relationships
can be stormy.
With a Rabbit; this relationship is short on passion and long
on unspoken secrets. Things need to be brought into the open.
With a Dragon; Lots of passion and surprises and the likelihood
of burnout at some point unless there is a shared commitment
to steady things.
With a Snake; This is not an auspicious union. The Snake eats
Rats.
With a Horse; Strictly physical.
With a Goat/Sheep; These two could live in the same house for
20 years without ever saying more than 2 words to each other
and be perfectly happy.
With a Monkey; The lively and intelligent monkey with the fast
thinking and quick witted rat is a relationship full of zest,
sparkle and zaniness which is likely to endure.
With the Rooster; Individuality is the key. Each needs to be
fully established and confident individuals before they can
respect the other.
With the Dog; Family commitments and other shared interests
keep this relationship steady and harmonious.
With the Pig; The Pig is the last sign of the Zodiac and the
Rat is the first. This means that there will be lots of changes
and stress in this relationship. These two need to be very flexible
and forgiving.
