The Snake
Original Drawing by Shi-He Wang
The Snake is the 6th sign of the Zodiac.
If you were born between May 5 and June 6th you are influenced
by the Snake.
The Snake rules between the hours of 9.00 am and 11.00 am
The snake is the mystic of the Zodiac.
It has a quiet superiority, and a finely honed intuitive sense.
While it listens intently, with understanding and empathy, it
can also be quite calculating with the information gathered.
The Snake often adopts an air of indifference.
It has a gift for languages.
The snake can also be quite secretive and gains an advantage
by learning the secrets of others.
Snakes have an understated elegance about them, are always subtle
and can when the situation calls for it, blend invisibly into
the background.
Snake people make good lawyers, researchers, and even spies.
The mystical, magical, spiritual qualities of the Snake are
often misunderstood. They are symbols of transformation because,
in order to grow the Snake must shed its skin periodically.
Snakes have a much better reputation in the Orient. Westerners,
especially those familiar with the Biblical story, tend to blame
all humanity's troubles on the misunderstood snake. An ancient
Chinese proverb asks why one would improve on perfection by
adding legs to a Snake.
Snake people are wise, soft-spoken, with a compassionate and
placid nature.
At their worst, though, Snakes can be possessive, fickle, sore
losers, and sometimes even vengeful. The idea of the 'Snake
in the grass' implies that it can strike without warning, often
inflicting maximum damage with minimum effort. However, this
is strictly a defensive measure. Snakes rarely attack unprovoked.
How the Snake relates to;
The Rat; Snakes eat Rats, according to an ancient Chinese proverb.
The Snake is clearly in charge but for this relationship to
work it must allow the Rat its individuality.
The Ox; The earthy stability of the Ox is a perfect counterpoint
for the mystical glamour of the Snake. An auspicious union.
The Tiger; Cut from very different bolts of cloth the Snake
and the Tiger need much work and nurturing of each other to
make the relationship work.
The Rabbit; 'When the Rabbit meets the Snake there is true
happiness' states a Chinese proverb. Astrologically, though,
this is not a perfect union. While there is much love between
the partners, mundane daily life could be wearing.
The Dragon; While both are mystical signs, the Dragon is clearly
the Taker in this relationship. The Snake usually doesn't mind
giving, but adding up the hidden costs may cause the Snake some
difficulty.
The Snake; While two Snakes may intertwine in a gentle and
even mystical, mutual understanding, jealousy or rivalry often
rears its head with same sex partners, business partners and
other family members.
The Horse; An inauspicious union. The further apart the ages
the more differences appear and the more difficulty in expressing
feelings.
The Sheep/Goat; This is an auspicious relationship. Troubles
will rarely last long and both will be supportive of the other,
especially in creating a comfortable home life.
The Monkey; The views on life of these two are remarkably different,
leading often to friction. Sometimes this is a partnership that
stays together precisely because they agree on nothing.
The Rooster; There is a strong admiration and respect between
these two. Both business and romantic relationships are auspicious.
Their talents combine easily.
The Dog; This will not be a partnership of equals, yet there
will be respect between the two. Still, their worlds are far
apart, and much understanding and discussion is needed to make
this union work.
The Pig; While the Snake and the Pig will try very hard to
please each other, neither seems to really get it right, and
often matters are made worse. This can be quite exasperating.
Much discussion and attention to detail is needed to make this
union work.
