Self Healing 1
This is a most important position in a Reiki treatment.
Eyes, they say are the window to the soul. There
are a number of acupoints grouped around the eyes
which provide paths of entry into the meridians.
In meridian theory, the beginnings and the endings
of channels have particular significance. This where
the Qi is in transition. Because it is in transition,
Qi, tends to be quite active and often chaotic.
All three of the major yang channels that run the
entire length of the body begin in area of the eye.
Points activated at the beginning of a channel tend
to have an effect along the entire length of the
channel.
The Gallbladder Channel begins at the Inner Canthus
(the inner edge of the eye), the Stomach Channel
begins between the Orbit (eye socket) and Eyeball
directly below the pupil, and the Urinary Bladder
Channel begins just lateral to the OuterCanthus
(the outer edge).
As we work through the points associated with the
hand positions of Dr. Usui, it will be noted that
he has chosen points that have an effect on the
whole body or large parts of it. It will also be
noted that many of these points are also used classically
to 'calm the mind' and 'calm the spirit.' As well,
these points are used in classic Qi Gong practice.
Tongziliao /
Pupil Crevice.
Tongziliao (pronounced: tong tzee leeow) is located
in the hollow approximately lateral to the Outer
Canthus (the outside edge of the eye). Tongziliao
is the first point on the Gallbladder Channel. The
Gallbladder Channel is generally associated with
courage and will. This means the will to put into
action whatever plan or dream you might have.
The Gallbladder Channel runs down the outer aspect
of the torso and legs, and is particularly indicated
for pain in the hip region, often referred to as
Sciatica because the Sciatic Nerve runs through
this region. The hips are often associated with
moving forward in life in metaphysics.
This point is also indicated for any kind of 'vision'
problem. Metaphysically, ask what it is you do not
want to see.
Tongziliao may also be used to treat breast swelling
and pain in women.
Chengqi / Container
of Tears
Chengqi (pronounced; chung chee) is located directly
below the pupil between the eyeball and the orbit
of the eye. Chengqi is the first point on the Stomach
Channel. It is necessary in Acupuncture to needle
this point through the lower eyelid and often leaves
substantial bruising. Thankfully, in Reiki, the
treatment is much more elegant and less painful
and intrusive.
Chengqi is the entry point to the Stomach channel
which is another Yang channel that runs down the
front of the body, the leg and ends on the second
toe. It is associated with the health of the entire
body. Zusanli, the 36th point on the channel is
considered the single most important point for overall
health and longevity.
Chengqi itself is indicated for 'vision' problems
of all kinds.
Jingming / Bright
Eyes
The third point of note is Jingming / Bright Eyes.
Jingming is the first point on the Urinary Bladder
channel.
Jingming is located at the Inner Canthus of the
eye between the eyeball and the orbit. Jingming
is the entry point of the Urinary Bladder Channel.
The Urinary Bladder channel runs over the head,
straight down the back, the back of the legs and
ends on the little toe. This is the longest of all
the channels and has the most points. The Urinary
Bladder channel is also important for overall health
and well being. Down the Back are located the Shu
Points. Shu points on the UB channel are points
where the Qi of specific organs collects. Each of
the body's organs has a Shu point. Liver disharmonies
for example may be treated by manipulating the Liver
Shu point (Ganshu).
Activating the UB channel, then, has a rather intense
effect on the entire body.
Locally, Jingming also benefits the eyes as do
the other points.
There are other points around the eye, but these
are the main ones for our purposes and have significance
in Reiki.
As a general rule of thumb, then, when we place
our hands over the eyes, we are not just treating
the local area, but activating Qi to run the entire
length of the body. A reminder, to try to feel the
subtle difference in the flow of Qi from Lagong
and the surrounding tissue. Try to shift your hand
around a bit so that Laogong is directly over each
point; at the inner canthus, the outer canthus,
and directly below the pupil at the orbit.
Also see if you can't feel the Qi in other parts
of the body, especially in the feet.
