Baihui / Hundred Meetings

The main point being accessed in this position is Baihui, which is the 20th point on the Du extra channel. This point is also known as Hundred Meetings.

Baihui is located on the top of the head just posterior to the midpoint of the skull on the midline. There is a depression which can be felt.

In this particular position, it is Zhongchong, at the tip of the middle finger that is accessing the point. Dr. Usui's notebook indicates that this point may be accessed with Laogong in the palm of the hand.

Baihui is known as the hundred meetings because it is the gathering point of all the Yang Qi of the body and therefore has a powerful effect on regulating Yang in the body.

It is the connecting point between the physical world and the metaphysical world.

In Chakra theory, this is the location of the Crown Chakra.

The main action of Baihui is to raise Yang which it does quite powerfully. For this reason it is recommended that Baihui be activated with some caution. In Qi Gong practice for example, Baihui is sometimes seen as the Upper Dantian. Usually the Upper Dantian is located between the eyebrows and is often called the third eye, or the 6th chakra in Chakra theory.

According to ancient writings Heaven, Earth and Man are the three powers. Baihui accesses Heaven. Earth is accessed through the soles of the feet by Yongquan (pronounced yong kwan) (Kidney 1). Xuanji (pronounced tsuan gee), the 21st point on the Ren Channel is located at the throat, is man. The energy of Heaven can be better accessed by opening up Baihui. The energy of Earth can be better accessed by opening Yongquan, on the foot, and a Human is seen as the bridge between the two expressing through Xuanji. This is one view.

In Qi Gong practice, Because Yang has a natural tendency to rise, it is highly recommended that one cultivate the Qi of the Lower Dantian (Qihai), located below the navel, to become rooted in the earth before attempting to cultivate the energy of Baihui. Treating at Baihui, except for the express purpose of raising Yang in the body, or without a balancing treatment below, can have some disconcerting effects. This is why some teachers avoid Baihui as a treatment site.

Tianchong / Heavenly Rushing

In this position, Laogong, the palm point, falls naturally on Tianchong which is the 9th point on the Gallbladder channel. This point is located about a finger's breadth above the apex of the ear and slightly posterior. A slight depression can be felt.

Tianchong is indicated for Migraine headache. It is also indicated for all kinds of ear problems, toothache, and pain in the gums. It is especially indicated to calm the spirit when fright is the main emotion. It is also indicated for a variety of emotional and psychological disorders.

In general, this point will calm the middle, and clear the head.

Sishencong, Four Alert Spirit.

Sishencong (pronounced see shen tsong) is a grouping of four points around Baihui. They are extra points not associated with any channel. The main indication for these points is 'calm the spirit.' Activating these points is recommended for windstroke, epilepsy, dizziness, mania-depression, insomnia. In the absence of any disorder, the same caution applies to these points as to Baihui.
