Self Healing 4
Fengchi / Wind
Pool.
The main point being accessed in this position
is Fengchi. Fengchi (pronounced; fung chee) is the
20th point on the Gallbladder channel. This point
is located in the depression at the base of the
skull approximately where the main muscle groups
attach. The palm of the hand falls naturally over
the point in this postition. This point is invariably
tender to the touch.
This is also a meeting point of several Yang channels
including the extraordinary Yang channels that are
favoured by Japanese practitioners. Extraordinary
channels, carry the body's reserve energy like emergency
fuel tanks that can be tapped into in dire emergencies.
In many ancient practices though, they are seen
as reservoirs of energy that can propel one into
higher frequencies.
Fengchi is a point that is pivotal in the flow
of Qi between the head and the body. It is one of
the most used points to treat all kinds of head
and eye disharmonies.
Activating this point treats all the sense organs
of the head, treats facial pain and swelling including
toothache, nosebleed, ear infections, etc.
As well, Fengchi has a direct channel into the
brain and is most effective for clearing the Mind,
symptoms of which include dizziness, visual dizziness,
insomnia, loss of memory, epilepsy and dimness of
vision.
Tianzhu / Celestial
Pillar
Another point located just below and towards the
spine is Tianzhu, the 10th point on the Urinary
Bladder channel.
Tianzhu is another much used point. One of its
main indications is to Calm the Spirit, and is indicated
for mental disorders including mania, incessant
talking, childhood fright, seeing or communicating
with ghosts, and demonic possession. In modern terms,
the latter two indications may be a reference to
Scizophrenia or other severe forms of mental disorder.
Both these points are indicated to treat Wind.
Wind in TCM diagnosis has the effect one might expect.
In a healthy body the Qi flows like a gentle breeze.
To diagnose Wind, means that the Qi is 'rushing
like the Wind.'
There are two kinds of Wind to be aware of; External
Wind and Internal Wind. External Wind is seen as
the agent that carries outside pathogenic agents
into the body. Interior Wind moves through the Channels
and is often called 'Wind in the Channels.'
Generally speaking, Fengchi is used to treat exterior
wind and Tianzhu is used to treat interior Wind.
In the absence of treating one or the other of these
conditions, activating these points together as
in a Reiki treatment serves to harmonize body and
mind and regulate the flow of Qi between the head
and the body at both physical and metaphysical levels.
It is actually the aim of most eastern therapies
to promote balance and harmony. Here we have two
points side by side, accessed by this hand position
that do just that.
One more thing to note about these two points.
Both the Gallbladder Channel, and the Urinary Bladder
Channel run the entire length of the body. Accessing
these points promotes Qi flow along the entire length
of the channels.
In this respect you will find these points also
indicated for lower back problems, shoulder problems,
and inability of legs to support the body.
