Self Healing 5

In this position are 2 main points being accessed simultaneously. From a Reiki perspective this is an extremely important position.

Renying / Man's Welcome

Right Hand - Renying is the 9th point on the Stomach channel and is located in the depressions on either side of the Laryngeal Prominence. The Carotid Artery runs here and a pulse may be taken at this location. Because this point is located so close to the Carotid Artery, needling is done with extreme caution and some practitioners avoid this area altogether choosing alternative points.

Renying is also known as Tianwuahui (pronounced tee an woo hway), or Heaven's Five Meetings. Renying is a rather important point as it is included in two groupings of points both of which were classically designed to promote harmony in the body and harmony between heaven and earth. These two groupings are known as "Window of Heaven" and "Sea of Qi."

Renying is included in these two groupings for its particular property of harmonizing the flow of Qi between the head and the body. The neck is an important area of the body for this purpose for obvious reasons.

Qi has a tendency to get stuck in the neck area at both the physical and metaphysical levels causing either stagnation or chaotic movement of Qi. Either way the most important connection for a human is that between the head and the heart, which metaphorically is seen as the connection between Yang and Yin; Heaven and Earth.

Interestingly, this is not the point for accessing the throat Chakra. Access to the Throat Chakra is through Tiantu (pronounced tee an too), the 23rd point on the Ren Channel, located in the depression at the top of the sternum. As well, Xuanji, the 22nd point on the Ren channel located just below is also seen as an entry point into the 5th Chakra. In Qigong practice a human is seen as the bridge between Heaven and Earth. Baihui, at the top of the head is seen as the connection to Heaven, Yongquan, on the sole of the foot is seen as the connection to Earth, and Tiantu or Xuanji are seen as Centre of the Bridge.

In Reiki practice Tiantu may be seen as an alternate or a compliment to Renying. Renying would be recommended for more localized and physical ailments, while Tiantu would be recommended for aligning the head and the heart and strengthening the bridge between Heaven and Earth.

Tiantu is seen as the entry point to the Throat Chakra, and is quite useful to Reiki when there are things needing to be said, getting stuck in the throat.

Shanzhong / Chest Centre

Shanzhong (pronounced shan tzong) is one of the most powerful and used points on the body. It is the 17th point on the Ren channel and is located on the midline, on the sternum, at a point even with the 4th intercostal space. This is roughly midway between the nipples in men and small breasted women.

Shanzhong is the Front Mu point of the Pericardium and is therefore the more important point for treating all kinds of heart problems at the physical level. A Mu point is where the Qi of a particular organ gathers and concentrates. This is a direct link into the heart which has a balancing effect. In other words, an excess is reduced, or a deficiency is tonified depending on what is needed. According to Mrs. Takata, this is the essence of Reiki healing.

It is also the gathering point of Qi of the entire body, known as a Hui (pronounced hway) Meeting Point. This doubles its effectiveness in treating local conditions and extends its influence over the whole body.

Shanzhong is recommended in all cases of pain in the body.

Shanzhong is seen as the entry point to the Heart Chakra and is sometimes referred to as the location of the metaphysical or energetic heart.
