Jianjing / Shoulder
Well
Jianjing (pronounced jee an jing) is the 21st point
on the Gallbladder channel, and is located aproximately
half way between the tip of the acromion and the
7th Cervical Vertebra on the shoulder. If you feel
for the muscle coming down from the neck and running
to the tip of the shoulder the point will be about
half way and to the back of the muscle.
Jianjing is a meeting point for several Yang channels
of the body and is well used point for a variety
of ailments but especially those involving anger
as a primary emotion. The Gallbladder channel is
closely linked to the Liver channel whose related
emotion is anger. According to ancient texts, anger
causes the Qi to flow upward. Because of the close
relationship between the Gallbladder and Liver channels,
it very often flows upwards along the Gallbladder
channel which traverses the shoulder and becomes
concentrated at this point. For most westerners
this point is almost always tender. It is where
we carry our frustrations and our burdens.
Many massage therapists have a tendency to attack
this point with some vigour. I personally prefer
to simply lay a hand on it and let the Reiki balance
the Qi flow. This is a classic Reiki position for
treating others. The main effect is to direct Qi
downward which is its natural and normal course.
This point is classically used to induce labour
in long or difficult pregnancies and should therefore
be avoided in pregnant women, even in Reiki. It
is also used to release retained placenta, induce
the flow of milk in nursing mothers, and ease breast
pain of any kind, so it is a very good point to
use post partem for about three months.
